Matt's attempt at the Nottingham 10K

My Story
I love walking. I do it all the time and have found over the last ten years that being outdoors has a hugely positive impact on my mental health. But I'm not a runner.
During Covid, I needed something more to do besides walking to keep fit, given I was no longer able to play badminton. My wife and I decided to do Couch to 5K. We completed it (with difficulty). I have barely run since. I'm not a runner.
More recently I've inexplicably found myself toying with the idea of getting back into running, mostly for the health benefits. The problem I have is that I don't quite want it enough to motivate myself to go and do it. I need to change that.
As the Fundraising Manager at Framework I was recently involved in the Robin Hood Half Marathon as an event marshal. I was blown away by the determination of the runners, many of whom had clearly overcome barriers far greater than any I will have to. This was the kick up the bum I needed to get moving and so, on the very same day, I booked myself a place in the Nottingham 10K.
I have never done anything like this before. It's all new to me and is going to be a huge challenge - quite possibly the greatest I have ever undertaken. But as I enter my 30s, I figured it's as good a time as any to make a change!
To help me get through this I am going to need a lot of support. Other than your words of encouragement, the best way to show me your support is by donating to this page. I am raising funds for Framework as I have seen first-hand the difference our services make to thousands of people every year.
Framework provides a number of tailored housing, health and employment services to around 21,000 people per year across the East Midlands and in Sheffield. These services are holistic and person-centred, designed to empower those we support to overcome homelessness, ill-health, disadvantage and exclusion.
Every penny of your donation to my page will help Framework develop homes for rough sleepers and provide the support needed to maintain their tenancies.
With your help, Framework will continue to be there for thousands of local people experiencing homelessness every year. And - again with your help - maybe, just maybe, I'll become a runner. So please do donate today if you are able to, and please do share this page with others so they can do the same.
Thank you, and hopefully I make it to the finish line!
